Colorful wall art

Dare to be colorful. Our favourite rooms are not the beige ones. They have a wall painted terracotta or sage, a cushion that clashes on purpose, and art that brings more colour, not less.

The prints on this page are the boldest in our collection. Hilma af Klint's Youth paintings glow orange with pink and blue; Adulthood sets gold against lilac; Kandinsky's Improvisation No. 30 is all primary colour and movement. They were radical when they were painted and they still wake a room up.

The trick with colorful art is size and repetition. Go bigger than you think, and repeat one colour from the print somewhere else in the room, so the art looks like it belongs rather than shouts.

Questions

Will colorful art work with a colored wall?

Yes. Pick a print where one of the main colors contrasts with the wall, such as orange Youth on a sage or blue wall, and let a white mount create some space between them.

How many colorful prints should I hang together?

Two or three at most on one wall, in the same size or the same frame, so the group reads as one piece.
