About the work
Adulthood, No. 7 in Hilma af Klint's The Ten Largest (1907), trades the orange of Youth for a soft lilac ground. At its centre two golden, lantern-like shapes stack above each other, framed by red leaves, green circles and fine pencil-like lines. It is calmer than the Youth paintings and works as a single statement piece: one 70×100 cm print above a sideboard or a bed is often all a wall needs. Pair it with No. 3 for a lilac-and-orange contrast that feels bold rather than busy.
