About the work
The Stone Breaker is an oil on wood by Georges Seurat, dated c. 1882. Georges Seurat (1859–1891) developed pointillism, building pictures from small dots of colour, as in A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. His velvety conté crayon drawings are just as admired. The original is in the collection of National Gallery of Art, Washington.
