About the work

Male Nude is a brush and black wash and black gouache with green-yellow gouache by August Macke, dated 1912. August Macke (1887–1914) was a German Expressionist linked to Der Blaue Reiter, known for bright colour and calm scenes of everyday life. He died in the first weeks of the First World War, aged 27. The original is in the collection of Cleveland Museum of Art.
