About the work

Self-Portrait is a watercolor over graphite on light brown wove japan paper; partial sketch of face in graphite on verso by Egon Schiele, dated 1912. Egon Schiele (1890–1918) was an Austrian Expressionist whose tense, searching line made his portraits and figures instantly recognisable. The original is in the collection of National Gallery of Art, Washington.
