About the work

Horse and Boats (Study for "Bathers at Asnières") is an oil on wood by Georges Seurat, dated 1883–84. Georges Seurat (1859–1891) developed pointillism, building pictures from small dots of colour, as in A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. His velvety conté crayon drawings are just as admired. The original is in the collection of National Gallery of Art, Washington.
