About the work
Haystacks is an oil on wood by Georges Seurat, dated c. 1882. Georges Seurat (1859–1891) developed pointillism, building pictures from small dots of colour, as in A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. His velvety conté crayon drawings are just as admired. The original is in the collection of National Gallery of Art, Washington.
