About the work
Ichikawa Danjuro VII in the Role of Shibaraku (Ichikawa Danjûrô VII in de rol van Shibaraku) is a work by Utagawa Hiroshige. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. His landscapes show weather, light and everyday places along the roads and rivers of Japan, and their bold cropping and flat colour later inspired Van Gogh, Monet and Whistler. The original is in the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
