About the work
Cherry Trees in Leaf along the Sumida River (Kersenbomen in blad langs de Sumida rivier) is a work by Utagawa Hiroshige. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. His landscapes show weather, light and everyday places along the roads and rivers of Japan, and their bold cropping and flat colour later inspired Van Gogh, Monet and Whistler. The original is in the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
