About the work
A Breton Gleaner is a pastel on laid paper, squared in blue pastel by Paul Gauguin, dated 1886. Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was a French Post-Impressionist who worked with flat colour and simplified forms, first in Brittany and later in Tahiti. He was also an inventive printmaker, in woodcut and in the zincographs of the 1889 Volpini Suite. The original is in the collection of National Gallery of Art, Washington.
