Poster sizes explained, and framed or unframed
Art prints come in a handful of standard sizes. Knowing them makes frames cheap and layouts easy.
The standard sizes
| Size | Inches (approx.) | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 30×40 cm | 12×16 in | narrow walls, shelves, groups of three |
| 50×50 cm | 20×20 in | square works, hallways, above a console |
| 50×70 cm | 20×28 in | the all-rounder: pairs above sofas and beds |
| 70×100 cm | 28×40 in | one statement piece above a sofa or bed |
These are Scandinavian and European standard sizes, which is why ready-made frames and mounts are easy to find for them.
Framed or unframed?
Framed is ready to hang and protects the print. Our frames are classic profiles in black, white or natural, with a white mount and shatter-resistant acrylic glazing, which is lighter and safer than glass above a bed or sofa.
Unframed is for you if you already have frames, want a special framer, or prefer to hang prints with clips or a picture rail. It is also cheaper to ship.
Mounts and proportions
A white mount, the card border inside the frame, gives a print breathing space and makes it look more expensive. Because we never crop an artwork, a print whose proportions differ slightly from the paper gets a thin white border instead, which a mount hides neatly.
